Mike Huffman

Based in Missouri

A leading product developer for Bass Pro Shops – one of the largest fishing retailers in the world, Huffman has been responsible for dozens of highly unique and effective patterns for a variety of species, from bass to bonefish.

He grew up fishing California’s high Sierras on pack horse, where he caught his first fish, a Golden Trout, on a fly. His father would take him to meetings of Fly Fishermen for Conservation in Fresno, where he learned to tie and angle from some of the best, including Darwin Atkin and Ed Schroeder. Later, his grandfather bought a motor home and Huffman got to fish the best waters of the Western U.S.

Following college and a few years spent in the telecommunications industry, Huffman worked for various outdoors magazines and wholesale and retail tackle dealers, and continued to teach. After moving to Texas in 1989, he got his stripes on striped bass, redfish, big bass, sunfish and other southern coastal species.

He has been featured on numerous television and radio shows, videos, and in newspapers and magazines over the years. He now resides in Missouri ’s famed Ozarks.
